Meet Teresa Tillson

Teresa is accepting new directees.

Teresa practices as Christian contemplative in the Benedictine tradition.  She follows the way of Jesus and practices primarily through Centering Prayer.  Teresa has practiced thelay contemplative life for over 40 years, through the seasons of youth, working life, marriage, divorce, death and grief, depression and uplift, and both nearness to God and spiritual dryness in her life with God.

Teresa is shaped by the teachings of Richard Rohr, Thomas Keating, Cynthia Bourgeault, James Finley, the Episcopal Order of St. Helena, and the Monks at St. John’s Abbey where she has been an Oblate since 1996.

Teresa’s first teachers in the contemplative life were Spiritual Director Sister Ellen Stephen, OSH and Father Thomas Keating O.C.S.O.  It is her joy to hold a safe space for others to talk about how God is moving in life.   She has been a regular Al-Anon attender for several years and finds the 12-step program to be one of the great contemporary spiritual movements.

Teresa is a graduate of the Tending the Holy Spiritual Direction program at Christos in Lino Lakes, MN.  She is a cradle Episcopalian, and the Book of Common Prayer is written on her bones. She earned a BA in Speech/Theater from Washington State University and an MBA in

Marketing from the University of Washington. In her regular working life, Teresa practices fund development for nonprofits. In her small Minnesota town, Teresa has worshiped with Emmaus Church since 2003 where she is gifted with a community that ranges from liberal to conservative.  Teresa loves the monastic and Episcopalian liturgy and is spiritually curious, which makes spiritual direction an ideal vocation. While steeped in the long tradition of mystic catholic/Christian practice, Teresa welcomes people from Protestant, Catholic, atheist, agnostic, and non-Christian practices.

Teresa sees directees in her hometown of Northfield, MN and via Zoom. Learn more about
