Letter of Recommendation Instructions for the Sacred Ground Spiritual Director Formation and Training Program 

Please ask two people who know you well to write a letter of recommendation to the Sacred Ground Center for Spirituality Spiritual Director Formation and Training Program. 

We ask that you do not choose your spiritual director or family members. 

Instruct them to email the recommendations to: Jessica Sanborn, Program Coordinator  jessica.sanborn@sacredgroundspirit.org 

We will consider your application after we receive the recommendations. 

Each letter should include reasons for recommending you, including: 

● Demonstration of personal qualities such as spiritual and psychological maturity, practical experience, the support of trained guides or mentors, and other qualities demonstrating your calling to become a spiritual director. Mentioning specific, concrete qualities is helpful. 

● Ability to do the work intellectually and academically - to be able to enter a process of adult learning, including appropriate self-revelation, some comfort with making mistakes, the capacity to wait or tolerate ambiguity, the ability to name and reflect on one’s personal experience, or to have the ability to learn these skills and commit to one’s spiritual life. 

● Specific gifts you have that make you a fitting candidate for the program.

● Places in which you will need to grow, areas of potential learning, and the like.

● How does this person know you? (e.g., pastor, friend, teacher, employer, mentor)
