Spiritual Directors Development Series: Anchoring Intersections—A Playful Exploration

Julian of Norwich, a 14th-century mystic, lived as an anchorite in an enclosed room with three windows open to the church, garden, and community. Recognizing the power of metaphor to illuminate and instruct, Jan Bros invites us to play with the description of the anchorite’s three-fold windowed connections to the world. Let’s explore how our “cells” as spiritual directors currently intersect with “church, garden, and community.”

While naming what has been, what anchoring intersections may there be yet to be?

Jan Bros has served as a pastor in large and small congregations for most of her adult life. Trained as a spiritual director both at Christos Center for Spiritual Formation, Lino Lakes, and Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation, Washington D.C., she currently works at the Episcopal House of Prayer with the Transforming Hearts program.

Jan is married to Bob and has four grown children, eight beautiful grandchildren, and a playful Miniature Schnauzer named Einstein. In her free time, she loves to hike, bike, quilt, and learn and learn about church history.

Sacred Ground Center for Spirituality and Loyola Spirituality Center look forward to bringing you this next installment of our online Spiritual Directors Development series.

We will meet by Zoom Monday May 11, 2026 from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm (central time).
