What does it mean to live as a mystic? According to Mirabai Starr, “Living as a mystic means orienting the whole of yourself toward the sacred. It’s a matter of purposely looking through the lens of love.” (Ordinary Mysticism: Your Life as Sacred Ground) Dorothee Soelle experienced mysticism as “borrowing the eyes of God.”
Mystics throughout history have lived on the edges, which may make them seem inaccessible to us as we cart our kids to soccer practice or work with spreadsheets to pay a mortgage. But the mystics invite us to open our eyes and our hearts to a God who is love, who is as near as your breath, and who invites us to participate in the mystery and miracle of being alive in this place and in this time.
Join us February 21 for a morning of praying with the mystics. You will be introduced to a handful of mystics and invited to a contemplative prayer practice inspired by their lives. We hope that you will experience a practice or two that resonates with you and helps you orient your heart and life toward a lens of love. And may you discover some good company and fresh invitations from the mystics we meet along the way.
Refreshments will be offered at 8:45. The program will begin at 9:00am.
This retreat is offered at no cost due to the generosity of Creekside United Church of Christ. Donations are most welcome.
