Groundings:  The Threefold Path: Renewing the Spiritual Life through the Journeys of Ego, Soul, and Spirit.

  • Saint Thomas More Catholic Church, Ignatius Hall 1079 Summit Avenue Saint Paul, MN, 55105 United States (map)

Groundings is a monthly lecture series offered September through May by Sacred Ground in collaboration with Loyola Spirituality Center and the Ignatian Spirituality Center at Saint Thomas More. Groundings is open to anyone interested in deepening their spirituality, their capacity for deep listening, and their contemplative engagement in our world.

Spiritual growth unfolds along three interconnected pathways—the journeys of the ego, the soul, and the Spirit. Each journey holds its own wisdom, challenges, and invitations for transformation. When we learn to distinguish and honor these dimensions, we gain a powerful framework for making sense of our spiritual lives and renewing our connection with the Sacred.

Each journey activates potentials within our human-spiritual experience:

  • The ego journey invites us to widen our awareness of our reactive and creative patterns.

  • The soul journey draws us into a deepening awareness of our wounds, our healing process, and our authentic purpose.

  • The Spirit journey heightens our awareness of Divine presence in our lives and the assurance and guidance it is providing.

Each of the three journeys will be explored through a symbolic image, core concepts, steps for navigating the journey, a spiritual practice for growth, and a vision of “homecoming” that reveals the gift of the journey. Through teaching, reflection, and small and large group conversation, we’ll cultivate a deeper fluency in the inner landscape of the spiritual life. And the aim of the journeys is to experience greater peace, power, and purpose for living.
