The Blues As Prayer
Friday, September 28, 2012
Part of the Sacred Ground Music Series
Music is the message and the medium of the message. The blues, known for its raw, righteous, and real lyrics, spans generation gaps, age barriers, and racial divisions. Using live music and storytelling, “Lady J Griot,” radio personality Jacquie Maddix, connects the audience to the religious and spiritual history of the blues, and to the ancient African practice of music as prayer. As the shaman uses music to lower the barrier between the mundane and mystical worlds, so Jacquie offers the blues as prayer as a way to lower the barrier between cultures and to keep us connected, soul to soul.
